PFSense Hardware Boxes - Why You Shouldn't Buy From Unknown Manufacturers!

Hi, all, I am trying to find some PFSense hardware boxes that are compatible with ESX servers. They are available for a wide variety of server platforms but I am having trouble finding them. There are plenty of different brands and models to choose from. This is because there are numerous suppliers of PFSense hardware boxes.

Hi, guys. As per normal there have been severe lock downs in here in sunny Scotland decided to go for the entire home labs. So many people have jumped on the bandwagon, so there is quite a large population of DIY home labs.

A couple of weeks ago bought a PFSense hardware box for a home lab project I was doing. After setting up a virtual private LAN (VPN) on my laptop I realised I had a problem and needed to create a physical connection between my laptop and ESX servers. That was when I looked for some PFSense boxes.

I did quite a bit of research and I found that there are a lot of different PFSense hardware boxes available and that you could do a lot of research on the web on the different companies who provide them. It was very important though that the box I picked fit my budget as well as provide the best performance for my home lab project. After much searching I was surprised to find there were a lot of PFSense boxes that are not actually supported by ESX servers.

It would have been good if the company I bought the hardware for offered support for other OS's as well as ESX. This way I could have avoided buying a PFSense hardware box that has been developed for other OS platforms. If you need some PFSense boxes then I suggest you try Google or eBay as I have managed to buy a lot more than what I thought possible from these two sources. I'm pretty sure I managed to buy one or two more boxes that didn't even support ESX and that's why I want to write this article. to inform people so they can avoid such issues.

My advice is if you really are looking to get PFSense boxes for your home lab, I recommend buying them from the same source that supplies PFSense servers. Servers are also supported by the PFSense software so you shouldn't have any problems using them either.
