Setting Up a Cheap Pfsense Box With KOMix Disk Drives

Finding a cheap Pfsense box isn't hard to do if you know what you are looking for. Firstly, lets look at what is available. There are several cheap Pfsense boxes on sale on eBay and Amazon UK. Keep in mind, that any ethernet ports on the back will not make it into pfSense. Probably the best option suggested so far.

You can also get a cheap pfsense box from eBay. With a properly configured cheap pfsense box as your primary router, you may find that you are not restarting your primary router for your web connection to come back. At least you should be able to find a solution that allows you to just turn the modem off to get your net back. I have had this problem with Linksys routers, as I use a Linksys wireless adapter for my office network. It seems that Linksys sometimes doesn't recognize my wireless device properly or at least won't restart it upon disconnect.

To try this solution, connect through an ethernet cable to your computer. Then, go to "Settings" and then click on the "Network" tab. You will then be asked to log on to a" CGI Web page", click "OK". Finally you can see the Pfsense icon in the task bar, and it should say "loading" or something similar.

The second option is to use a cheap Pfsense router as a thin client. If you've never built or used a router before, this may seem like a bad idea, as a regular Pfsense box will probably do a better job. In fact, I would recommend building one from scratch if you're a total beginner. This article assumes that you are not new to Linux or the internet in general. If you want to know more about how a Pfsense router works, visit the link at the bottom of this page for a full quick start guide.

If you want to connect your Pfsense to a network via Ethernet, then you can go to "inetworking" on your PC and select "manually connect your computer to the internet". From there, you will need to go to "inetadp". Finally you will need to select "scan" and then click "connect". If all of this doesn't work, then you may have a Linksys modem stuck in "pinging" mode, which is basically the mode where it will constantly send out pings to determine whether or not your computer is online. If you cannot find the modem in this mode, then you need to go into "Safe Mode" on your Linksys and manually connect via DVB or USB Ethernet to make it active.

After you have done this, it's time to move on to actually setting up the Pfsense box. The first thing you will need to do is go into the "engerspy" tab on the System settings and then change the values for the DNS server IPs and any other things necessary to make your connections to the internet through your cheap Pfsense box. After this is done, reboot your komixbox. It will automatically install any needed drivers for the Linksys Ethernet cards, and it will also prompt you to insert the correct KOMix diskettes if you did not install them with your Linksys main router.
